Carrie Underwood got booed on American Idol after she told contestant Mor that singing an original song was a "missed opportunity"
"I love it. Your boos are feeding me," she said
Mor was chosen for the Top 30
Carrie Underwood can handle the heat.
During the Monday, March 2 episode of American Idol, Mor made a bold move by performing an original song for Hollywood Week — and Underwood had some harsh feedback.
"My audition was nothing short of a blessing... I was able to sing my original song and that meant a lot to me," Mor said before his performance.
"I feel like I have a story to tell that can impact and help people," he continued. "There's definitely moments where I have doubts if this is the right choice or not. Especially a song you wrote that no one knows. It puts a lot of weight on the performance itself."
Before kicking off his performance, where he had no backing band and he played the guitar, Mor told the audience the song was called "How to Love You."

"I feel you guys are gonna boo me," Underwood, 42, said to the audience afterward. "It's coming — just bring it on. I love it. Your boos are feeding me."
Then, addressing Mor, the "Before He Cheats" singer said his song choice was a "missed opportunity" — and the audience immediately booed her.
"In a room like this, for you to bring an original song with that incredible band sitting behind you twiddling their thumbs... I feel like it was just a missed opportunity," she said.
"I love your voice. I love you," she said, adding, "But I loved being in an intimate room like that with you and listening to you tell your story. I feel like you took a risk here and it paid off."
Mor thanked her for the feedback — and then said that he didn't regret his decision in a confessional.
"I loved being able to do that song for all those people," Mor said.

As the audience continued to express their disappointment in Underwood's critiques, her fellow judge Luke Bryan jumped in to defend her.
“She only won this," he said, referring to the singer's 2005 American Idol victory. "She knows.”
When the judges were ultimately narrowing down their picks for the Top 30, Mor was in the clear.

"The fact that I've made it this far... this is what I want to do for the rest of my life," he said.
While the episode was airing, Carrie doubled down on her unpopular opinion by writing on X, "Boo me. I don't care.😂😜🤪"
"Singing original music is SUCH a gamble at this stage in the competition," she added a few minutes later. "Don’t. Waste. The. Band. Mor’s voice and previous audition kept him in. I wanna hear his original music after he’s a big star!"
During his audition a few weeks prior, Mor moved the judges with an original song called "Strong."
"I lost my biological mom when I was 2 years old," he said at the time. "My dad ended my mom's life. It's about seeing my mom's picture for the first time and not knowing her and kind of looking at a stranger and pouring out my emotions of that through this song."
Up next, the Top 30 will enter the all-new "Ohana Round" at Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii.
American Idol airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
