JAY-Z shares his story in upcoming HBO series
Amid his major return to the stage, JAŸ-Z will be the center of a new HBO documentary series exploring his life, career and musical journey.
The Grammy-winning rapper, who recently adopted the stylized name JAŸ-Z in a nod to his 1996 debut album "Reasonable Doubt," will be featured in a new eight-part HBO docuseries, directed by renowned record producer and executive Rick Rubin.
In the teaser for the upcoming series, released June 25, the rap music giant sits down with Rubin, saying "The pain, you don't say it's necessary, you don't say you need it, but if it's there, you use it."
Billed as a candid and intimate eight-part conversation, the upcoming documentary series traces the rapper's artistic evolution through music, lyrics and lived experiences. It will be available to stream on HBO Max in the U.S. this fall.
The announcement comes as the "I Know" rapper is taking over stages all over the U.S. during a high-profile return to live performances.

Recently, JAŸ-Z lit up the stage at The Roots Picnic on Saturday, May 30, in Philadelphia. It was his first solo headlining performance in years, marking the 30th anniversary of his debut album, "Reasonable Doubt." During his performance, the MC set aside time to share his thoughts on apparent spats with a few fellow rappers in a new freestyle.
Next month, he is poisted to take the stage for three major shows in his hometown of New York City.
On July 10, he will celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Reasonable Doubt" with a concert at Yankee Stadium. This will be followed by a 25th anniversary concert for "The Blueprint" on July 11. A third "EXTRA INNINGS" show was added on July 12 to combine both shows due to high demand.
This fall he is also scheduled to perform in Los Angeles on Friday, Oct. 23 as well as Paris on Thursday, Sept. 10.
