Lamar Odom says the afterlife "isn't what people make it out to be" in PEOPLE's exclusive first look of the trailer for Odom's installment of Netflix's Untold.

The former Lakers star, 46, opens up about his 2015 overdose in the upcoming film The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, premiering on Netflix March 31. "I had 12 strokes and six heart attacks," Odom tells viewers. "That's not no average s---."

Odom's ex Khloe Kardashian sits down to share her experience of the years when he was "living a rockstar lifestyle," as a friend of Odom's puts it in the trailer. Kardashian, 41, recalls Laker games being "the center of the universe" for her and Odom, who recently checked into rehab for marijuana addiction after being arrested for a DUI in January.

Kardashian, who married Odom in 2009 before they initially separated in 2013, recalls in the trailer how her ex-husband "would escape rehab" and "go on a drug bender."

"No one could find him," says the reality star. She also admits feeling "such a responsibility to cover this up and protect him," while talking about the years Odom spent abusing substances.

"That first hit of cocaine was amazing," Odom says in the trailer, admitting it led him to "unlock a vault" he couldn't "really control."

The former basketball star, who hadn't played in the NBA for two seasons at the time of his overdose, says he felt "embarrassment" about his drug and alcohol abuse. "I was out all night partying. I didn't want to stop," Odom says.

He tells viewers, "The afterlife is not what people make it out to be," at the end of the trailer.

The former manager of the Love Ranch, the brothel 30 minutes outside of Las Vegas where Odom overdosed, also appears in the Untold episode to share his recollection of the night Odom nearly died.

The episode is directed by Ryan Duffy, who served as an executive producer on Untold installments like Malice at the Palace and Caitlyn Jenner and directed Johnny Football, which explored former college football star Johnny Manziel's controversial career in 2023.

Odom checked into rehab in January after being arrested for DUI on Jan. 17. His manager, Gina Rodriguez, said Odom decided to seek treatment specifically for marijuana use out of concern it could lead to a relapse into harder, more dangerous drugs.

“After a recent incident, he took a step back to reflect and address triggers he’s been dealing with,” Rodriguez, adding that Odom made the “personal decision” to enter treatment to “reset and focus on his health.”

She went on to note that Odom is taking "full responsibility and choosing to be proactive about his wellbeing."
