The 5 Best Beach Hat Trends for Summer 2026Free People, Jenni Kayne, Aritzia

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to know the importance of having a beach hat. Whether that’s a now-faded baseball cap or a packable straw sun hat, these have become my most-used accessories for any time I’m at the pool or beach. Why, you ask? Well, for one, I’m keenly aware of the sun’s UV rays—which means I’m layering on all the protection one can get—SPF, cover-ups, and, yes, hats. Plus, with my dark hair, my head actually gets quite hot in the beating sun. Not to mention, I just feel a little more put-together (and a little more savvy) when I’ve got a hat on for a day in the sun.

Though beach hats are nothing new for the warmest months of the year, there have been a few standout styles to make their appearances on the runway—and naturally, into our carts.

One must always have their trusted go-tos, but in case you want to switch things up, there’s always a new trend to partake in—and the best beach hat trends for 2026 are so chic. Scroll on to see them all.

Crochet Bucket Hats

Yes, there are the classic bucket hats, but if you want something that feels a little different for the summer, opt for the crochet versions. These pack up just as well and won’t take up too much room in your designated beach bag.

Oversized Brims

For those who want to look undeniably chic, you simply can’t go wrong with styles featuring oversized brims, as seen on the runways of Ralph Lauren’s spring/summer 2026 collection. These are the types that might bring scenes of the French Riviera to mind. I envision them with classic one-piece maillots or high-waisted bikinis and classic sunglasses.

Gardener’s Styles

One particular style that lives rent-free in my mind is the gardening hat. I first spotted floppy, wide-brimmed options on models at TWP’s spring/summer 2026 show, and it’s that effortlessly chic, outdoorsy yet preppy touch that will give your beach ’fits an unexpected edge. I personally love flipping up the front of the brim to really drive the look home.

Relaxed Raffia

Maybe I’m biased, because I love my Janessa LeonĆ© raffia hat. That said, I’m seeing fashionable women all around trade their more traditional straw hats for more relaxed (and packable) options. It simply gives an ensemble a bit of a laissez-faire vibe—and if you ask me, that’s chicer than anything.

Logo Baseball Caps

Another tried-and-true option is the classic baseball cap—but this time with the added touch of a brand logo or name. If you have the option to show off your merch, why not take it? Or, take this opportunity to get a little cheeky with it.
