Jeff Kober reveals the one reason he’d return to General Hospital while speaking with PEOPLE in an exclusive interview

He made his debut in the popular soap opera as Cyrus Renault in 2020

The actor has been nominated for Emmys for his roles in General Hospital and The Pitt

Jeff Kober knows exactly what it would take to get him back on General Hospital.

The 72-year-old actor reveals the one reason he’d return to the popular soap opera while speaking with PEOPLE in an exclusive interview.

Kober made his debut in General Hospital as Cyrus Renault in 2020. He appeared in the show on-and-off for five years until his character was killed off.Ā Most recently, in December 2025, Kober reprised the role in a dream sequence with Genie Francis’ Laura Spencer.

As for whether he’s open to returning to the ABC show, he says, ā€œI love to work and I would do anything with Genie. She’s a great actress and a great scene partner. She’s someone who’ll go anywhere you want to go with them.ā€

Kober continues, ā€œSo, if they bring me back and let me work with her, I wouldn’t mind making the drive over to Prospect Studios.ā€

The actor previously told PEOPLE in 2025 about his special connection with Francis.

ā€œI would say I’m closest to her in that we both get excited when we can work together because both of us want to make it as rich as possible and find the dangerous areas of it, and see what happens there,ā€ he said.

Kober won a Daytime Emmy Award for his supporting performance in General Hospital in 2022. He was also nominated in 2021. He is nominated again this year for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series.

The actor also received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as mechanic Duke Ekins in The Pitt season 2.

The two nominations led to Kober making history as the only actor to be nominated for a Primetime and Daytime Emmy in the same year.

The Pitt swept this year’s drama categories with 25 nods, including Outstanding Drama Series.Ā Kober submitted himself for the Primetime Emmy nomination because he felt confident in his performance.

ā€œThere are so many great performances on this show, and they have a limited number of people that they can submit. But I knew it was a job that I wanted to have seen. I knew the material and my particular wheelhouse were perfectly aligned, so I really wanted to at least have it be seen,ā€ he tells PEOPLE.

He appeared in six episodes of the HBO hit drama, mostly in scenes with Noah Wyle.

The 78th Emmy Awards air live on Monday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
