Birthday boy Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband Justin Mikita are proud dads of two!

The couple first met when Mikita was a law student, not long after Modern Family premiered. At the time, he was in a separate relationship, so the pair wouldn’t start dating until late 2010. By 2012, Ferguson had proposed and the two went on to get married on July 20, 2013, in N.Y.C.

Eight years later, the lovebirds became first-time parents, welcoming son Beckett Mercer on July 7, 2020. Two years later, their family grew once more with the arrival of Sullivan Louis on Nov. 15, 2022.

“Fatherhood broke my heart open in ways that I didn’t expect,” Ferguson told PEOPLE in 2026. “And I just love my kids so much. I love being able to take them to the theater, share things with them that I love.”

The family moved to Europe to support Ferguson as he played in Jesus Christ Superstar on the West End, and even took a day out to visit the Eiffel Tower in “London,” per Beckett’s request. “When I told Beckett we were moving to London for a few months I asked him what he was most excited to see… his response? The Eiffel Tower,” Mikita shared. “Here we are!”
