Social Security payments in May follow a normal schedule, with the first payments hitting on May 13.
Social Security – benefits paid mostly to recipients who are older or retired – typically go out on Wednesdays. On the second Wednesday of the month, payments are issued for beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the first and 10th days of the month (for May, that is May 13), according to the Social Security Administration’s calendar.
Recipients born between the 11th and 20th get paid on the third Wednesday of the month (May 20); those born after the 20th of the month are paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month (May 27), according to the SSA calendar. Social Security recipients who began getting benefits before May 1997 are scheduled to be paid on Friday, May 1.

May 2026 Social Security retirement benefits will be sent out on the SSA’s usual schedule:
Wednesday, May 13: Birth dates between the first and 10th of the month.
Wednesday, May 20: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th of the month.
Wednesday, May 27: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month.
SSI payment schedule for April and the rest of 2026
Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a program also administered by the Social Security Administration, benefits those with limited or no income or resources, those aged 65 or older, and those who are blind or have a qualifying disability. Children with a qualifying disability are also eligible for SSI, according to the SSA website.
SSI recipients are typically issued payments on the first business day of the month – in May, that is Friday, May 1. Here are the dates for SSI payments for 2026, according to the SSA calendar:
