Reese Witherspoon and financier Oliver Haarmann made their first official public appearance as a couple at the Elle premiere.

The actress and producer has been romantically linked to Haarmann since 2024.

It's Witherspoon's first major relationship since her 2023 divorce from talent agent Jim Toth.

The Big Little Lies star made headlines recently by making her first public appearance with her boyfriend, Oliver Haarmann. The two have been romantically linked since 2024, but the New York City premiere of Prime Video's Legally Blonde prequel, Elle, marked their first official public appearance as a couple. Witherspoon, an Oscar and Emmy winner perhaps best known for playing underdog lawyer Elle Woods in the beloved franchise, serves as an executive producer on the new series.

This is Witherspoon's first major relationship since her 2023 divorce from Hollywood agent Jim Toth. The two had been married since 2011 and share a son, Tennessee. Before that, the actress was married to her Cruel Intentions costar Ryan Phillippe from 1999 to 2008, though they separated in 2006.

Now that Witherspoon is happily stepping out with her long-rumored beau, let's learn a bit more about Oliver Haarmann.

He works in finance

Haarmann is a founding partner of Searchlight Capital, a private equity firm based in New York, London, and Toronto that was established in 2010. He serves on multiple committees and portfolio company boards, and prior to co-founding Searchlight, he was a senior partner at KKR & Co L.P. in London.

He earned a bachelor's degree in history and international relations from Brown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

He's a co-owner of the New York Islanders

In 2023, Haarmann purchased a minority stake in the New York Islanders hockey team. As a longtime fan of both the sport and the team, he fulfilled a dream by becoming a co-owner. "My 10-year-old self would never believe my seats," he said in a 2025 interview.

He was previously married and has two children

Haarmann was previously married to fellow investor and businesswoman Mala Gaonkar. They share two sons and worked together on the Surgo Foundation, a nonprofit co-founded by Gaonkar, Dr. Sema Sgaier, Malcolm Gladwell, and Haarmann that is "committed to improving health and prosperity everywhere—from global hubs to local communities."

Witherspoon was first spotted out with Haarmann in July 2024, with a source telling PEOPLE that the actress was "taking things slow when it comes to dating." At the time, they were said to be just friends. By Sept. 5, however, it was reported that they were romantically involved after once again being spotted out and about in New York City.

Over the next year, they were occasionally spotted together in London and Saint-Tropez, France. According to a PEOPLE source, "Her relationship with Oliver is very special to her. He's not interested in the Hollywood spotlight. He's there for her."

At the Elle premiere, Witherspoon and Haarmann reportedly "smiled and held hands throughout the evening." Fittingly, Haarmann sported a pink tie in a nod to Elle Woods' signature color—a subtle show of support for Witherspoon that perfectly complemented her own pink dress.
