INGLEWOOD, CA — The U.S. men's national team will close out the World Cup group stage against Turkey on Thursday, June 25.
Prior to the tournament, this appeared to be a can't-miss matchup between the two top teams in the group. In reality, it has turned into something quite different.
For the first time in its history, the USMNT has clinched its World Cup group with a game to spare. Meanwhile, Turkey is already eliminated before kickoff.
It could still be an intriguing matchup nonetheless, and the man in the center of it all will be referee Mustapha Ghorbal.

Ghorbal, a 40-year-old Algerian, will be assisted by fellow Algerians, Mokrane Gourari and Abbes Akram Zerhouni.
Omar Al-Ali of the United Arab Emirates will serve as the fourth official and Mohamed Al-Hammadi will be the reserve assistant referee.
This is the second World Cup for Ghorbal, who took charge of two group stage matches at the 2022 World Cup. This is also the second match of this World Cup for Ghorbal, who officiated Scotland's opening-game win against Haiti.
